Rapidfire supports Parkinson’s QLD

World Parkinson’s Day on 11th April aims to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease and how it impacts affected individuals, families and the wider community.

Approximately 80,000 Australians suffer from Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative neurological condition which typically manifests itself in sufferers with symptoms such as slowness of movement, muscle rigidity, postural instability and tremor.  Currently, there is known cause or cure for the debilitating movement disorder which can severely affect a person’s ability to complete everyday tasks such as writing, speaking and grooming as the disease progresses.

Parkinson's Queensland Inc.

Parkinson’s Queensland Inc. (PQI) is a not-for-profit organisation providing information, support and awareness to people with Parkinson's disease, family, friends, carers, allied health workers and the general public. PQI also raises funds for research and support services to people with Parkinson’s disease and their major fundraising event for the year, the Parkinson’s Queensland Unity Walk, will be held on Sunday 12th September 2010 along the Wynnum Esplanade Foreshore.  The community event is expected to attract around 1000 participants of all ages and PQI warmly invites you to participate and help make a difference to the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s disease.  Online registrations open in May.
